How would you describe emo?

My feeling, it's a musical style and a group of posers who want to grab attention. Incidents such as the Hannah Bond incident were tragic yet she clearly didn't understand the Black Parade story of hope. Did she do that just to fit in? And why do they cut themselves? Is that also to fit in? I wanna know what you people think about it and I hope some concerned parents realise their child is being someone they're not if they're "emo". My feeling, emo kids, go listen to MCR and realise you can be yourself and keep living.
